Our youth empowerment program took place over a two day retreat in Altadena, California. On June 6 2018, 18 youth participants from diverse backgrounds partook in an interactive program created by educators to inspire youth on the journey of self-discovery. Based on current research, positive psychology and youth input, it addressed the issues uppermost in the minds of youth today. How can I make a difference in the world? What does my future hold? Who can I count on? Do I have what it takes to be successful, how will I know? Am I safe? During the two -day workshop the participants explored the concepts of self, community, challenge, perspective, privilege, bias, personal powers, passions and action. They were introduced to a range of skills; critical thinking, collaboration, self – reflection, communication and learned about self- advocacy and mindfulness in a fun and collaborative learning environment.
